In England and Wales, if you are an employer, owner, landlord or occupier of business or other non-domestic premises, you are responsible for the fire safety person.

Under the Fire Safety Order, the ‘responsible person’ has a number of duties to adhere to including; undertake and regularly review fire risk assessments; advise staff and/or their representatives about the risks you’ve identified; put in place, and maintain, adequate and appropriate fire safety measures; plan for an emergency; and to provide fire safety instruction and training.
Local fire and rescue authorities have the power to inspect premises and issue notices advising of recommended changes. If you do not follow the required Fire Safety regulations, you could be fined or even risk a prison sentence.
